As a Paralympian and 2-time world record holder in the wheelchair 100m, who has played a role in developing several D1 soccer players in the United States, including two back-to-back Arizona Gatorade Players of the Year, I knew that club soccer, with its over-the-top parents, was focusing too much on winning over development. My wife, who has her PhD in Educational Psychology, knew it, too.
We used famous clips from YouTube, including Madin’s “Next Ronaldo” videos and Hassan Ayari’s “Little Messi” videos, to teach our kids ball familiarity. Our kids had a blast trying to copy them. They even made their own videos. We are happy to have coached so many kids in our community, and around the world, for free.
